Counter-Strike began as a Half-Life mod in 1999 before becoming the definitive tactical shooter. By 2003, it had over 90,000 concurrent players, making it the most-played online action game in the world. Released by Valve in 2007, Team Fortress 2 took the class-based formula to new heights. With its distinctive art style and accessible gameplay, TF2 peaked at over 100,000 concurrent players in 2012. The game's free-to-play transition in 2011 helped maintain its popularity, creating one of gaming's most enduring communities.
